About me

I’m Doris. I was born in Malaysia and at the age of 15, my family moved to New Zealand. After I got married, my husband and I moved to Lausanne, Switzerland in 2009. I worked as a neuroscientist for a few years in EPFL. After my first child was born, we moved from Lausanne to Puidoux and I have become a full time mum and housewife. I believe my journey of cooking and baking is greatly influenced by my mum. I feel blessed because I had a mum who was very passionate and talented in cooking and baking. I always enjoyed having meals at home and so did my friends when I shared with them the cakes and kuihs mum made. Her amicability and enthusiasm had brought happiness to many people. I remembered one time, when we were still living in Malaysia, my mum prepared a big feast for some of our church friends. I remembered very well this amusing scene: an uncle sitting at the table munching through the leftovers by himself, while other guests had already moved on into the living room and were sitting down for an after-meal coffee. Those are wonderful memories I have about mum’s cooking and I regretted that I didn’t learn enough from her when I had the chance. Although there are very delicious European cuisines and patisseries here in Switzerland (which I enjoy very much), the choices of Asian cuisine and international bakery/patisseries are limited. So I started cooking and baking food items of our cultures (Asian and NZ/western culture) for my family. I did this so they would have the opportunity to taste and appreciate food from our home countries. Now I have also started making themed birthday cakes for my children. “在 家 靠 父 母, 出 外 靠 朋 友” is one of the well-known phrases in Chinese culture that I have learnt since young. It means: while we are at home, our parents support us; when we are outside, our friends support us. Since we have no family here in Switzerland, we truly appreciate the company of our friends and hence from time to time, we love to invite them over. I followed my mum’s footstep and seem to always cook and bake more than enough for our guests, to see the smiles on their faces. Once a friend had asked me, "Why don't you bake to sell?" At that time, I was unsure but kept this idea in my mind. On another occasion, after a party, a friend was interested in ordering some egg tarts and encouraged me to bake and sell, as she found them to be quite delicious. I am so grateful that my bakery can bring joy to a person and this became my motivation. So now, let me welcome you to my online bakery! Feel free to browse all the cakes/patisseries you want, and if you like what you see, contact me for an order. In the coming future, I hope to add more to the selection as I explore other flavours from various countries. Can’t wait for more delightful creations! Personally, I favor subtle sweetness in my baking – and this is what my friends enjoy. However, if you have a very sweet tooth, the recipe can be adapted to your preferred taste. If satisfying your taste buds is most important, then I hope you will be kind to my decorative skills. Be assured that I will continue to improve my techniques for my bakery. Thank you so much for your support!
